The silence – aka out of sight out of mind – officially object permanence or impermanence??
The Silence is an alien from Doctor Who described as a religious order of priests. Even if you see a Silent, you won’t remember you’ve seen it as the Silence edit themselves from an observer’s memory. (Just like everything I need to do!)
This is the perfect description for the ADHD out of sight, out of mind concept.
For me, literally, if it’s not in front of me, I don’t know it exists (apart from most living beings!)
I started sorting some stuff at home (well, I say sorting, I put stuff in some bags*) and I put the bags outside the front door of the flat to get them out of the way and to sort later that evening.
*some time passed*
THE NEXT MORNING
When I went out, I saw the bags as I opened the door and made a mental note (ha ha ha ha ha ha) to sort when I got home.
*some time passed*
GOT HOME
Got to the top of the stairs, saw the bags, decided to sort once I'd dropped my stuff and un-harnessed Boo (The Director of Floof).

This is out of sight, out of mind. I have it for absolutely everything. The only way I know for sure I will remember to do something is if I write it on my hand. I've done it my whole life, and I may get a blank to do list tattoo!
I don't remember to check my phone, so notes is no good for me.
Reminder apps don't work for me etc etc
I do remember to meet people though, and I check my phone calendar for meetings but things to do, don't stick in my head even if written down. Hence my hand!
What works for you with out of sight out of mind?
*doom bags coming to a later blog
